Things to do in Arinaga: your holiday guide to Gran Canaria

Arinaga is a seaside town in the municipality of Agüimes, in south-east Gran Canaria. Away from the busiest resorts in the south, it combines a quiet beach, a long seafront promenade and great local food, and it is very close to the airport. If you are thinking of staying in our holiday apartments in Arinaga, here is a guide to the best things to do during your stay.

Stroll along the promenade and Arinaga beach

The seafront promenade runs along the whole town and is perfect for walking, running or cycling early in the morning or at sunset. Along the way you will find terraces, ice-cream shops and restaurants, as well as Arinaga beach, with calm waters for much of the year.

Dive or snorkel at Playa del Cabrón

Very close to the town is Playa del Cabrón, a protected natural area considered one of the best diving spots in the Canary Islands. Its rocky seabed is home to a wide variety of fish, octopus and rays. Local dive centres offer try-dives and guided dives, and on calm days snorkelling from the shore is spectacular.

Visit Arinaga lighthouse

The old Arinaga lighthouse, on the coast next to the town, is one of its landmarks. It is well worth walking there to enjoy the views of the coastline and the ocean, especially at sunrise.

Try the local food

Arinaga keeps its fishing tradition alive: don’t leave without trying fresh grilled fish, papas arrugadas with mojo sauce or Canarian cheese. The restaurants on the promenade are ideal for a meal with sea views.
