One of the great advantages of staying in Arinaga is having the sea right on your doorstep. South-east Gran Canaria has beaches for every taste: calm ones for families, coves perfect for diving and wind spots famous all over the world. Here are the best beaches near Arinaga.

Arinaga beach

Right in front of the town’s promenade, it is the easiest option if you stay in our tourist apartments in Arinaga, about a 10-minute walk away. The water is calm for much of the year, and along the promenade there are terraces and restaurants for lunch after a swim.

Playa del Cabrón

A small pebble beach inside a protected natural area, and one of the best places in the Canary Islands for diving and snorkelling. Its seabed is rich in marine life. We recommend water shoes, a mask and snorkel, and always respecting the rules of the protected area.

Playa de Vargas

Also in the municipality of Agüimes, this is a wide, open beach where the wind blows strongly for much of the year. That makes it very popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers, although it is not the best choice for a quiet swim.

Pozo Izquierdo

In the neighbouring municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Pozo Izquierdo is world-famous for windsurfing and hosts events of the World Cup. Even if you don’t practise the sport, it is worth going to watch the best riders in action.

Playa del Burrero

On the coast of Ingenio, north of Arinaga, this beach has a fishing tradition, a pleasant promenade and restaurants where you can enjoy fresh fish.

Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés

If you’d like to see the famous Maspalomas dunes and the big beaches of the south, they are about 30-40 minutes from Arinaga by car.

Tips for enjoying the south-east beaches

• The wind is usually stronger in the afternoon: make the most of the mornings to swim or dive.
• Always wear sun protection, even on cloudy days.
• Check the sea conditions and follow the flags and lifeguards’ instructions.
